Summary:

This Western Waters Fisheries Case Study will cover ICES Sub-Divisions VII & VIII (Channel, Celtic Sea and Bay of Biscay). The Western Waters Case Study will stand within the geographical boundaries of both the North-Western and South–Western Regional Advisory councils (NWRAC and SWRAC).

The fisheries selected are:

  1. French fleets targeting Norway lobster, hake and sole (small and large scale) operating in the Bay of Biscay
  2. French gill-netters targeting sole, hake and anglerfishes in the Bay of Biscay
  3. French gill-netters targeting flatfish and cod in the Channel
  4. Irish polyvalent trawlers targeting herring
  5. Spanish Basque purse seiners in the Bay of Biscay
  6. Spanish Basque mix trawlers in the Bay of Biscay
  7. Spanish Basque trawlers in ICES sub-areas VI and VII 
  8. English demersal vessels operating in sub-area VII
